Hallmarking & Metal Purity

Hallmarking is the official UK system used to verify the purity of precious metals and provides customers with confidence in the quality and authenticity of their jewellery. A hallmark confirms that an item has been independently tested by one of the four UK Assay Offices and meets strict legal standards.

Little Fingers ’n’ Toes is proudly registered with the Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office in London. This registration allows us to submit qualifying jewellery pieces for independent testing and hallmarking, giving our customers reassurance that our materials are exactly as described.

Sterling Silver Hallmarking Requirements

Under UK law, sterling silver jewellery is only legally required to be hallmarked if it weighs more than 7.78 grams. Many of our jewellery designs are intentionally delicate and lightweight, which means they fall below this legal threshold and are not required to carry a hallmark.

While these lighter items are not hallmarked, they are still crafted from genuine 925 sterling silver and are made to the same high standards as our heavier pieces. The absence of a hallmark on lighter items does not indicate lower quality — only that hallmarking is not legally required.

Hallmarked Jewellery Pieces

All of our heavier silver fingerprint and handprint jewellery pieces that exceed the prescribed minimum weight are independently assayed and hallmarked before dispatch. These hallmarks confirm the metal purity and verify that the piece has passed official testing.

In addition to the official assay marks, these items will also carry our unique maker’s mark, providing an extra layer of authenticity and traceability back to Little Fingers ’n’ Toes.
